Lesson of the day(and the past month): finding a subleaser sucks.
At the beginning of February 2010 a few of my friends and I started looking for a house to live in for the school year. We found a 6 bedroom house that, at the time, we all loved. All of us had been amped up for moving in together.
A week before our lease was going to start one of our roommates told us she was looking for a subleaser and was moving out because it no longer worked out for her. It sucked. It was an awful feeling. Your friend and roommate wants to move out. You don't want to have to find anyone to replace her because you don't want to have to deal with making a new friend and getting comfortable with someone else.
We ended up settling for a guy to live there over the summer just so we wouldn't have to worry about it and so we could have more time to find a girl. We worked it out.
Just a few days ago another one of our roommates decided that the house situation wasn't going to work out for her anymore so she told us to find her a subleaser too. Finding another subleaser is the last thing I want to do right now. It's hard to talk to new people living in your house about bill payment arrangements and other things like that.
We thought we could depend on the two but now we don't think we can. It is going to be a little bit harder to depend on someone we don't know too.
So, before you sign a lease with some friends, think about how much you can really depend on them. A lease is a legal documenting between tenants and their landlord. It isn't always going to be easy to get out of and it is difficult to find a subleaser.

The Slightly Frustrating Writing Process.
Lesson of the day: all writing takes time. There are many steps and stages, that is why it is called a process.
As some of you, whoever reads this, know, I have been semi-regularly publishing posts on my blog. I sort of expected to have more readers and get more regular comments but that hasn't happened quite yet. Not sure what I am doing wrong and what I am doing right.
So, the other night I found this old textbook for a writing class I had in 7th grade. It's called Write Source 2000. When I had to read it for class I hated it but I just couldn't stop flipping through the pages that I once hated so much. It was interesting and I guess now that I am more interested in a writing career it is more appealing. Who would've guesses?
The first chapter tells you all about the writing process. The stages and steps that are involved in the art and practice of writing. You know, the prewriting, brainstorming, information collecting, writing the first draft and revising and editing. It takes time to do all of these and even more time to do them well.
I don't know if I've climbed any steps at all in this blog. I haven't gone through any stages either, or none that I have really noticed. So, if there is anyone reading this blog, could you help me out a little. Or a lot?

Readers, are you out there?
Lesson of the day: you can't give up on blogging because you have no proof of readers or followers.
For a while I had a few people regularly commenting on my blog and for the last month or two there has been nothing. Maybe that is my fault though because I kind of slacked off for a while.
A blog is supposed to be personal first, that is if you are using it as an online journal or diary. My blog is a reflection of day-to-day life of a college student. You can get that from the title. A online diary should be personal first. A way for YOU, the blogger, to communicate with yourself. It's a good reflection tool and a way to get things off your chest.
Publishing a post to your blog can make it seem like someone else is listening to you even if they aren't. The important part of publishing a post, to me anyways, is that you did it. You put it out there and now people can read it. It used to be scary but now that I have been doing it for a while it's easier and I don't care so much that I don't have much proof of readers.

To-Do list!
Todays lesson: set goals. "To-do" lists are goals. So here is my Summer list of things to achieve.
Today I have decided that you need to have some sort of goal to achieve everything - or anything. To-do lists can have one item on them or ten. You don't have make huge magnificent goals to start with. If you have a large goal figure out the smaller parts of that goal that you would have to accomplish before you reach the end result. Not all goals will be easy to accomplish. Some can take twenty minutes and others may take a year. If you really want to achieve that goal then the time you put in will be worth it.
Having a competitor would probably be good too but isn't necessary. I find that is always motivating to have someone else who is trying to achieve the same thing that you are. It makes you want to work harder. I'm making up an imaginary friend to be my competitor who will ALWAYS one-up me so I will have to work harder all the time.
I'm also looking for a new hobby to keep me entertained. I've been thinking a lot about getting into photography. I like to take pictures of things so it may be a good fit. After I went to my sister's Girl Scout award ceremony I have been thinking about getting into cake decorating. If you are any good at either you can make some extra money ($$$).
- lose 20 lbs.
- blog at least once a week
- find job in Duluth
- read at least 3 books before September 1st
